| Rayman0723 | Lightning damage | The only true protection against lightning is shutting-down and disconnecting all conductive paths to the equipment. When spring comes I keep an eye on the Doppler radar and act when I see the angry red patches coming my way. |

| KMW64 | Lightning storms | The inexpensive MOV type surge suppressors that you see everywhere can’t absorb a lot of energy and may not respond quickly enough. Much better protection is a commercial grade TVSS (transient voltage surge suppressor). A good one can cost $200 - $300 but it’s worth it if you’re in an area that gets a lot of activity. You also need to make sure you’ve got a good earth ground connected to it so it has a low impedance discharge path. |
